Focused ultrasound is an early-stage, noninvasive therapeutic technology that could transform the treatment of many medical disorders. Every day without it translates into unnecessary death, disability, and suffering for countless individuals.
Unfortunately, the evolution of a new therapeutic medical device from concept to standard of care can take decades. Complicated and inefficient, the process requires the interaction of many organizations with differing agendas and timelines. There are also numerous technology, economic, regulatory and reimbursement obstacles to overcome.
Decades is too long for patients and their families to wait for medical breakthroughs. If we can accelerate the adoption of focused ultrasound, we can save lives.
The Foundation
Inspired by the success of the US-based Focused Ultrasound Foundation over the past 17 years, we created the UK Focused Ultrasound Foundation. Together with our sister organization in the US, we are working to provide patients with this noninvasive, life-changing treatment option in the shortest time possible. We contribute financial and human resources to foster collaboration, to build knowledge and to streamline the process and overcome barriers.
The Foundation is on the leading edge of the venture philanthropy and social entrepreneurship movements and has become a model of how donor funding can be used to bridge the gap between laboratory research and widespread patient treatment. The UK Focused Ultrasound Foundation offers UK based taxpayers the opportunity to contribute to improve the lives of millions of people with serious medical disorders by accelerating the development and adoption of focused ultrasound and support the sprawling research community in the field specifically in the UK.
The UK Focused Ultrasound Foundation is independent of, but works closely with the US-based Focused Ultrasound Foundation in a way of sharing common goals and resources to achieve our objectives.

Our vision is that focused ultrasound will be used worldwide to improve the quality of life and longevity of millions of patients with serious medical conditions in the shortest time possible. In that aim, the Foundation’s mission is to accelerate the development of new applications of focused ultrasound and its widespread adoption as a standard of care in the shortest time possible.
